New Chosen Idea; Portraiture

As I was unable to take pictures of different landscapes I decided to change my idea to portraiture. Therefore I will not be using the images I took for my 'christmas photo shoot'. Instead I will take similar pictures, using christmas decorations; ball balls and tinsel as well as a DSLR camera. With this equipment, I will take some focused photos allowing the shadows of the objects to be visible, and I will take other photos moving the objects and camera around creating abstract images. ( I will capture these images in a darkroom using a lamp to shine on the objects). This idea relates to David Baileys light portraitures.

These pictures that I took with my mobile phone will be used to blend with my portrait photos, using Adobe Photoshop.

The theme that I have chosen for my final outcome is Urban Landscape which I will tie in with abstract images of artificial light. The images above present this idea.

Review of Ideas and Experiments

1. How do you plan on taking the project forward? What are your ideas for your christmas photo shoot?

I plan to take a variety of digital photos for my christmas photo shoot within the themes: landscapes (day and night), abstract photos and portraiture. I have planned to take photos within different themes so that I have a variety of results to observe and maybe analyse so that I can pick my preferred theme for my final project. 

2. Which experiments have you enjoyed the most? Why? How do you plan to move on from this to experiment further for your final outcome? i.e. combining techniques and experiments


The experiments that I have enjoyed the most are: the blending experiments using Photoshop, light painting, multiple exposure effect using photoshop and light painting using Photoshop.

3. Which photographers are you going to research in relation to your own pathway ideas?

As I have chosen the pathway 'landscape photography' I will do further research on Edgar Martins' and Patrick Rochon's landscape light photography. This will enable me to gather initial ideas and begin to think of techniques to use and photograph. Also, once I have looked at their photography work, I will then be able to think of particular locations that I'd like to shoot my photos. 

Multiple Exposure Effect Using Photoshop

 I did this experiment on the left using Adobe Photoshop. I opened up two seperate pictures; the model used and the building and dragged the image of the building onto the other picture. I then selected the layers palet and a blending technique; Linear Light.

 Rather than dragging the building onto the face I did it the opposite way to compare two techniques. For this image I also changed the opacity to 56% and the hard mix fill to 50%.










I created these two images to add to my experimentations, so I can decide what types of photography I want to present in my final project.
